You might have wanted a motorcycle for a long time. You feel the need for the wind in your face, the open road before you, and hopefully not too many bugs getting stuck in both your windshield and teeth. Before you peruse the local dealerships and get ready to cruise, you’ll need some information. (And more importantly a license.) For instance, there are three distinct types of motorcycles that you’ll find on the market. If you’ve ever been curious about what they might be, sit right back and we’ll explain...

Street Bikes

Much like their name suggests, street bokes are formulated for use on paved roads. The design for them is usually based on comfort and performance. Whether it’s the speed or distance you’re aiming for, there’s a bike that’s tailor-made for you. There are two sub-categories with street bikes, that are used for these extracurricular activities.

Touring Bike Once again, the name of this type of motorcycle is rather self-explanatory when it comes to its purpose. Touring bikes are usually built with comfort in mind, as they’re used for going long distances. They tend to be heavier and come equipped with larger engines and storage bins.

Sport Bikes Just as touring bikes are built for comfort, the sportbike is geared towards high performance and high-octane excitement. They tend to be lighter, more aerodynamic, and have smaller engines that won’t weigh the bike down. They’re not recommended for novice riders as they tend to have fast acceleration.

Off-Road Bikes

If you’re sense of adventure leads you off the beaten path and on the road less traveled, then an off road bike might be your best option. These bikes tend to have tires with wide treads to travel unimpeded and elevated ground clearance to avoid obstacles. While they do come with equipment that makes them street legal, they’re not advisable for everyday use and are mostly used for recreation.

Dual Purpose Bikes

Here we go, the best of both worlds. Dual purpose bikes can travel on both paved roads and off road, and are known for their versatility and aerodynamic designs. These are ideal for riders who enjoy travelling on both terrains and want to ride every day.
