Riding Your Bike in the Rain? Check Out This Guide.

Motorcycle riding is a great way to enjoy the warm weather, bond with friends, or commute. If you want to ride, rain or shine, here is a guide to riding your street bike in the rain:

The first step to biking safely in the rain is preparing your motorcycle for the weather. To do so, inspect your bike for any mechanical issues. The last thing you want to do is get stuck in the rain because your bike malfunctioned. Once you've checked for any issues, you want to check your tire's traction. The better the tread, the safer you can ride on wet roads. Lastly, check your lights to be sure they're shining bright if you find yourself in a low visibility situation during a rainstorm.

Once your bike is ready for the rain, you can hit the road. When you're on the road and it starts to rain, you need to make adjustments to your riding. This is because the conditions of the road have changed. Just like if you were driving a car, you need to give yourself more space between other vehicles on the road. Wet roads are more slick, meaning it's harder to brake. By giving other vehicles on the road more space, you're allowing for a greater braking distance, improving safety for yourself and other people on the road.

You also need to operate your bike at a slower speed when it rains. This makes it easier for you to react to changes in traffic patterns or road conditions. It is also easier to brake when you're driving at a slower speed.

If you're riding your motorcycle through a construction area, you may come across a steel plate on the road. If you do, be especially careful riding over this plate in the rain. The surface will be severely slick. As you ride over the plate, don't make any changes in your speed or direction to reduce your risk of sliding.

If you follow these tips, you can operate your motorcycle as safely as possible in the rain. Discover high-quality and reliable motorcycles at Hap's Cycle Sales. We are located at 2530 17th St. in Sarasota, and you can reach us by phone at 941-365-3443. We hope to see you soon!
